Dr Morgan Tear

Research Fellow

Research Fellow, social psychologist

Morgan joined BehaviourWorks in 2018. Previously a Postdoctoral Research Officer in the Department of Psychological and Behaviour Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Morgan is now working as a Researcher in Residence with The Shannon Company.

Morgan is a social and cultural psychologist with a Bachelor degree in Psychological Science (BPsySc) and a PhD in Social Psychology, both from The University of Queensland. He completed a postdoctoral research position at the London School of Economics and Political Science at the juncture of social and cultural psychologies.

Morgan sits within BWA’s Social and Finance portfolio and draws on his training in psychology to apply a behaviour change lens to organisational culture, particularly in regards to safety and risk. Highlights of this work include:

  • Working with EUROCONTROL to measure and understand the safety culture in European Air Traffic Management;
  • Providing subject matter expertise to the OECD in an application of behavioural insights for improving safety culture in four national energy sectors;
  • A deep dive with WorkSafe Victoria into farmer safety behaviour around quad bikes; and
  • Designing an intervention and evaluation trial to reduce unsafe practice on Victorian building sites with the Victorian Building Authority

Other highlights of Morgan’s work include:

  • The delivery of a monthly survey to understand drivers and barriers to COVID-related behaviours (Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet);
  • An evidence and practice review of factors and activities that lead to scale-up of behavioural interventions (Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet);
  • Inclusion of those experiencing energy stress (Brotherhood of St Laurence; Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation) and vulnerable families (Department of Human and Health Services)

Morgan is currently working on:

  • Design of a risk culture measurement and uplift process with Australian Super
  • Evidence and practice review of construction safety culture with Fleetwood
