Research Fellow
Research Fellow, media psychologist
Celine joined BehaviourWorks in January 2020 and is currently involved in a Waste and Circular Economy research collaboration project, which involves five partners.
Celine holds a PhD in Communication Science from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and a Master’s degree in Media Management/Media Psychology from the University of Cologne (Germany).
During her PhD, Celine conducted research on the nature of mass media coverage of infectious disease outbreaks; in particular emotional or sensationalist coverage and its effect on perceptions of risk, emotional response and preventive behaviours.
She participated as researcher in the interdisciplinary EU research project, ‘Effective Communication in Outbreak Management (ECOM)’, which developed an evidence-based behavioural and communication package for health professionals and institutions in case of major infectious disease outbreaks.
Before joining BWA, Celine was a Lecturer in the Monash Sustainable Development Institute’s Sustainable Development Education Program, where she took the lead in developing and delivering a new Work-Integrated Learning unit in the Master of Environment and Sustainability.
Her students were working on real-world projects addressing sustainable development challenges in collaboration with diverse industry partners. Celine has developed and taught university course content on topics such as social media and media effects, journalism and news bias in climate change reporting, research methods, and has supervised graduate research.
When she’s not deep in her research, Celine loves spending time in the ocean and volunteering as a surf mentor for children with mental health challenges.
