Bushfire crisis a critical moment to encourage pro-environmental behaviours

Bushfire crisis a critical moment to encourage pro-environmental behaviours

Time to act for nature

Many people have expressed a strong desire to help with bushfire recovery. Even before the current bushfire crisis, many Australians were primed to act for nature.

In The Conversation, BehaviourWorks researchers Denise Goodwin, Abby Wild and Melissa Hatty pen a thoughtful article about how organisations can seize this critical moment to foster pro-environmental behaviours.

It notes that Australians have willingly changed their behaviour in the past, citing examples such as water use and the Millenium Drought.

While the current crisis presents many similar opportunities, organisations need to ‘seize the moment’ and consider using behaviour change techniques to keep individuals engaged.

This includes developing and communicating a range of activities that make it easy for people to act for nature.
